The Parish Book Club Finds That It is Love That Sustains Us
The Parish Book Club has selected “The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride for their next read. Lauded as one of the BEST books of 2023, the novel begins in 1972 when workers in Pottstown, PA. who were digging the foundations for a new development, find a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the secrets held by residents of Chicken Hill, a dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. As the mystery unfolds, we find it is - heaven and earth - love and community that sustains us. All are welcome to the meeting on Thursday, March 21at 7 PM in the Sofa Room.
