The Scrip Purchase Program is a mandatory program for families with children in grades K-8.  The program offers two options for families to choose from in order to meet their requirement.  The first option allows for families to purchase gift cards that generate rebates from the merchants directly to ICS.  The second option allows for families to buyout their Scrip Purchase requirement.  The buyout requirement is 10% of the purchase requirement as detailed below.  

Scrip is the least time consuming and most cost-effective manner to raise money for ICS.  In fact, it can cost our families nothing to participate.  Funds raised through these purchases are issued to ICS from the merchants.  Rebates range from 1.5% of the purchase price for gas cards up to 30% of the purchase price of Shammy Shine cards.   In other words, when a family purchases a $50 gas card, they pay $50 and the gas company rebates $0.75 to ICS, while a $20 Shammy Shine card purchase generates a $6 rebate from Shammy Shine. As one can imagine, the rebates back to ICS can and do add up to a significant amount of money that is used directly in support of the school.

For these reasons, it is essential that each ICS family fulfill their Scrip requirement. In fact, each family is urged to buy as much product with Scrip as possible, rather than simply hitting the minimum amount required. Please remember this during the Christmas season, as many retail stores accept Scrip. It is not just for buying food! 

Therefore, unless there is a special need, Scrip purchases are not to be assigned to other families. Special permission to do so, however, may be given by the pastor upon written request.

What is the Mandatory Scrip Purchase Commitment?
For the 2018 / 2019 School Year K-8 Scrip Commitment:

 
For the 2018-2019 school year, Scrip purchases made from June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019  will apply to the purchase commitment. Buyout payments equal to 10% of the Scrip purchases amount will be accepted in lieu of Mandatory Scrip purchases (for example: a payment of $10 will be accepted in lieu of $100 of Scrip purchases, a payment of $20 will be accepted in lieu of $200 of Scrip purchases, a payment of $200 will be accepted in lieu of $2,000 of Scrip purchases, etc.).
This practice is recommended if you are not committed to the program.

Scrip purchases will be tracked and reported to each family via the  Family Obligation Status   report on the ICS website.  

Failure to meet the requirements of the Mandatory Scrip Purchase program will be treated as non-payment of tuition, with the same consequences. The pastor is always willing to discuss exceptional circumstances.

Are Scrip Purchases or Scrip Buyout Payments Tax Deductible?
Scrip purchases and Scrip buyout payments are NOT tax deductible.

Which Scrip Purchases are Credited Toward a Family's Purchase Commitment?
In order for a Scrip purchase to be credited toward a family's Scrip purchase commitment, the purchase must be made by parents, legal guardians, siblings over 21 years of age, or grandparents, and ordered through the online Scrip website.

Scrip purchases may not be made by a member of one family for another family without the permission of the pastor.

Is the Mandatory Scrip Purchase Commitment Pro-Rated if Our Child is Enrolled After the Start of the School Year? 
Yes, the pro-ration is as follows 

• For students accepted between June 1st and October 15th: the annual requirement is not reduced.
• For students accepted between October 16th and January 15th: the annual requirement is reduced by 25%.
• For students accepted between January 16th and April 15th: the annual requirement is reduced by 50%.
• For students accepted after April 15th: the annual requirement is eliminated.

 
Scrip Buyout Examples
 
The Scrip buyout shall become equivalent to 10% of the family’s annual obligation. Implementing this requirement will ensure that the program further generates funds by offering an easy opportunity to assist the school. It is also a way of encouraging families to actively participate in the discipline of supporting the program. Those choosing not to participate in the Scrip program shall now incur the cost of a 10% buyout. 
 
For example, if your Scrip Requirement was $6,360 your buyout option would be $636.
